- Great worldbuilding as usual.
- Felt myself getting frustrated with a lot of the blunt writing this time around - all the characters being very self-complementary + leaning on past achievements to feel "deep".

- Fine book, not a huge fan.
- David Starr Jordan, ichthyologist, was not a great person.
- Some people get by in life by acknowledging the meaninglessness of everything, and being liberated by that, but for others that does not work well.
- Rose colored glasses when interpreting our own histories may help us stay sane.
- Fish exist as a parphyletic group (common ancestor but excluding some descendents) but not as a valid clade.
